Ingredients
- 5 cups of Swiss chard
- 200 ml water
- 125 ml of cream
- 50 g of grated cheese
- 1 chopped onion
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 grated carrot
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Oregano
- Merkén
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper
Instructions
- Remove the leaves and wash them thoroughly. Cut the thick stems and set aside. In a large pot, add boiling water with sea salt. Cover and cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Remove the Swiss chard, drain the water, and set aside.

- In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over high heat. Add the chopped onion, reduce to medium heat, and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent. Incorporate the crushed garlic, a pinch of salt, and the grated carrot.

- Keep the sauté over medium heat, stirring until well cooked. Optionally, season with oregano and merkén to taste. Add the reserved Swiss chard, egg, and milk. Gently mix with folding motions.

- Cook for about 5 minutes, add the grated cheese, and let it simmer for another 2 minutes. Check the seasoning and adjust if necessary. Serve your Swiss chard with cream immediately, either on its own or accompanied by baked potatoes or white rice.
Fiber and Minerals
Rich in minerals like calcium, Swiss chard is excellent for strengthening bones. Its high fiber and low-calorie content make it an ideal choice for weight-loss diets.
Growing Swiss Chard
Swiss chard thrives in temperate climates. It germinates at temperatures as low as 6°C and can withstand up to 33°C without significant issues. It prefers loose, well-drained soils with a medium nutrient level. Clay soil is ideal for germination.
Origin of Swiss Chard
Swiss chard, native to the Mediterranean, is related to beets and chard but is cultivated for its leaves rather than its roots.
